> What OS are you running? How much RAM do you have?Okay, right now I'm using OS 8.6, which seems to work well, and have 40 mb RAM. So while I got a good laugh out of the suggestion that i set up the 1400 for wi-fi, it's probably not a top priority. Um, could be I've got a turkey here (lowendmac: "road apple"). Glad I didn't pay TOO much for it (live and learn). The latest revelation is that the battery power was dropping OFF A CLIFF after about 45 mins., barely giving the computer a chance to gulp a breath before shutting down.

While studying the issue and finding info about old bad adapters I happen to notice that
the one included with this book is a model # M7783, a duo adapter. >sigh<
Anyone know if its okay to use with a 1400? I don't see that it is when I
look around the web.
The Powerbook Guy sells a 1.5 amp Duo AC adapter/charger #M2693 (came w/280c, and 2300), listing it usable for all Duos, 1400s, 2400s, 3400s, Kangas, and other G3 'books
The stipulation being ; the adapter can run these machines OK,and can charge the battery ...
but MAY NOT do both at the same time. Depends on the model.
The adapter you have #M7783 (for 210 thru 280 B & W) rates at 1.04 amp. My guess would be, it will be less likely to run and charge at the same time.
I've used both of these *Duo* adapters to run a 1400, but not to charge the battery.
Both the Duo adapters and the 1400 adapter #4896, output 24 volts DC ...

I guess these you can't turn into aquariums can you, unless you can find active-matrix fish.
