Nathan, A lot of people gave some good ideas for upgrades--should be all we could ever need. I am grateful to everyone for helping me sort it out. The ones I used immediately on the book as it stands are: 1) using Battery Amnesia to fully discharge my batteries, then fully charging them and checking their state with My Battery. 2)Turning off all extensions, and control panels I didn't need (I'm going to make subsets for different tasks, too, e.g., an extension set that's only on when I print.) Extension Overload is invaluable here (it also has a bunch of good speed tips like making sure Appleshare is turned off). 3) Fixing the trackpad with Climate control extension 4)Using the less intensive software that Ken mentioned-- > Choosing software can also make the PB faster. iCab, Eudora Lite, BBEdit > Lite, Claris Works 4, Battery Amnesia (to break the memory on your old > battery), Power Print, ect can help out with your speed problem until you > are ready for a upgrade card. I was going to ditch the book because it is so slow, but with these tweaks it is not bad, and it has a certain charming appeal. Probably though, you would want to get more RAM. I feel your 117 MHZ of pain, Denny -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
