I've got a 520c that has trouble starting up. Nothing in the OS
or drive, just can't get a signal to start up from the start button on the
keyboard. This is intermittent. Is there any other way to start the machine
other than the start button on the keyboard?
Have you tried an external ADB keyboard and used it's power key. Just to verify it is the keyboard and not something else like the power mangler.
If it is just the keyboard, especially if it sometimes works try cleaning the surface of the keyboard. This will mean removing the keyboard and taking off the keys and membrane layer. I don't know the specifics of the 5xx keyboard so I can't help with the keyboard disassembly.
