When I did some experiments with the Apple ADTX converter (found on
Apple-supplies 1 GB drives) and a third party ADTX converter (usually
found on 1.3 GB and larger drives), I discovered that they were different.

The Apple ADTX converter required Apple-branded 2.5" EIDE drives, and
thereafter it could be seen by Drive Setup, whereas the third party ADTX
converter could use either Apple-branded 2.5" EIDE drives or OEM 2.5"
EIDE drives, and thereafter it could be seen by a third party
initializer, but it could not be seen by Drive Setup.

The Apple ADTX converter and the third-part ADTX converter appear to be
identical, but there are differences in switch settings. Changing the
third-party ADTX converter switch settings to those found on an Apple
ADTX converter did not make the third party ADTX converter usable by
Drive Setup.

Probably as usual, the Apple ADTX converter contains special firmware
which makes use of non-Apple-branded drives difficult.

Similarly, Drive Setup probably contains code which makes use of third
party ADTX converted drives difficult.

For sure, Drive Setup supports ADTX converters to at least 9.2.1.
