might just try to replace the Apple CD-ROM driver with a fresh copy.

The media connector is probably at fault.

The Kanga (and most others) use a separate connector for an IDE-type
media as for a floppy-type media.

A test of CD-ROM vs. Floppy wouldn't be that interesting as each of these
media use completely different connectors.

However, a Zip vs. a Floppy would be interesting as both of these media
share the same connector.

Could it be a faulty CD mechanism ? Something wrong with the eject function ?
