A friend of mine has a PowerBook 3400c/180 that she's been using for the past number of years, however one day it refused to power on. She had me take a look at it, and I hit the power button (without it plugged in) and it powered up but no chime and nothing on the screen. I set it down on a table and plugged it in, and did command-control power, and it chimed and booted up fine. It wouldn't let me reset the PRAM, however, and it didn't show the battery as charging. Then, while it was running I removed the battery and it immediately shut down. I have since been unable to get it to boot up again. One thing I've noticed is that the AC adapter doesn't get warm at all, and the battery doesn't seem to charge. I'm thinking there's a chance it might be the AC adapter, so I'm going to bring it to the Apple dealer and have them test it with a different AC adapter...but if that's not it, any ideas? Maybe the power manager circuit? And is it worth me trying to fix it for her (not sure how much a new power manager circuit costs)? Afterall, it seems that 233Mhz G3's are going for under $200 on eBay these days.
Thanks for any advice. -Adam -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
