Be sure to establish separate home (DSL) and away (modem) configurations for both the TCP/IP and Open Transport control panels. My home 'net access is through Earthlink, but via a router which also performs all the PPPoE login functions. My away 'net access is through an Earthlink local access number, using a 3Com/USR 56K PC card modem. Consequently, I maintain default TCP/IP and Open Transport configurations, which are simply the Apple supplied configurations, and in addition I maintain "Home DSL" and "Away Earthlink" configurations. I always test the "Away Earthlink" configurations before going on the road, substituting my home area code local access number for the expected away area code number. For my 1400s, I use the above-mentioned PC card modem (and a 3Com EtherFast card). For my Kanga, I use the builtin modem (36 kB)/e-net connector (a single RJ-45 supports both). For my WS II, I use the builtin modem (56 kB) and the builtin e-net connectors. -- PowerBooks is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
