Bookies,
I'm really liking this 3400c. Got 9.1 to install from a G4 book
Install OS,no probs, got IE&OE 5 QT6. I am jackedinto the web via the
onboard ethernet. I put a Linksys 10/100 card in the slot and itmounted to
the desktop. Ihad it dongled into the router butit would not connect.
AppleTalk control panel did not show an alternative ethernet, just the one.
Does this card need a driver? Or is it Operator Error (again)?

Apple's pre-OS X systems only included drivers for Apple's Ethernet cards, be they PC Card, PCI, NuBus, PDS or other. In the case of LC PDS this includes most or all such cards as everyone seems to have copied Apple's Card. There may be a PCI card from Apple, I'm not sure. I don't know of any Apple PC Card NIC but there is the Airport which is close and the Airport driver does support compatible PC Cards.

This all means that, yes, you do need a driver for that card but AFAIK there is none. This is a common problem.

Any PC Card will show up on the desktop but typically they get a generic ICON unless there is an installed driver. A simple test is to double click on the cards ICON. If the driver is installed it will do something, typically open the relevant control panel. If no driver is installed I believe you get a warning to that affect.
