Oh my goodness I highly highly highly dis-recommend installing OS 9.1 
on a Duo 2300c.  At most install 8.6.  I would probably stick to 8.1.  
OS 9 offers little feature benefits to anybody running a Duo to make up 
for the massive extreme horrendous slow down, hogging of hard drive 
space, and 24mb of RAM (with Virtual Memory turned on - even more 
slowness!) that it takes up.  And don't even think about using the 
modem with OS 9 - the internal modem on Duos slows the machine down by 
some ridiculous number like 50%.  That's barely acceptable with System 
7, much less OS 9.

You have to get yourself out of the "newer is always better" syndrome - 
for it is very untrue.  Especially on a Duo 2300.  OS 9.1 yikes!

Just a word of warning.....  Either way you have to get an external 
CD-ROM, and for that you need either a dock or the crazy Duo - SCSI 
microdock.  Or a minidock.
