The pcmcia usb cards you want to use should be 16 bit type (that is without
the gold strip on top). These are rare to find. I even do not no if they
exist. If you want to use other cards like a cardbus 32bit type(with gold
strip) without modding you cannot put one in the slot/cage of a 3400. Apple
wanted in that time to support only old 16 bit cards. But lucky for us they
did put a cardbus compattible controller inside. So only the cage is not
comppatible. But the controller is .
Modding is quite easy. The only thing to do you need is to cut with handy
tools of your choice the plastic notcheson the slot side of the card to look
exactly like a 16 bit card. That is quickly done and then some cards will be
accepted. Which ones you have to search/google the net.
I have a "Kobishi PC-Card to USB 2.0" That works perfectly. But I can not
tell you about others.
