Of course there's the other tried-and-true method for fixing anything: try tapping on the case a bit--it may be a slightly loose connector. I have the same problem with a 520c, and I've not been able to figure out where the connection problem is taking the cover apart. Tapping on the back of the case when it goes bright and washed out brings it back to readability. (when in doubt, get a bigger hammer! :) )
