I recently acquired a PowerBook 180c. It came with a power adapter
and a battery. I plugged it in (without the battery) and pushed the
power button. The screen came on and it made the start up sound and
then it just turned off. I took it apart and tried several things
with it in pieces. If I had the screen disonnected it started easy
with just the power adapter. I could hear the OS boot up. I then
tried plugging the screen in after it had booted and it died every
time. I then put the batter in and let it charge with the screen off
and then plugged the screen in and it stayed on. However, the bottom
1/4 of the screen just stays gray. No picture shows up. But the
computer thinks there should be picture there. The only time when it
changes from this gray color is when i start or restart the computer
(before the happy mac appears) it is a blue color and then it shifts
to gray. First why does it only work when the battery is in. And is
this screen problem a screen problem or is it a power or firmware
problem?
