Alsoft makes a nifty little $30 utility called "PlusMaker" which can convert your drive without reformatting. I've used it on several drives.

However, while I've never had a problem with PlusMaker, be sure to backup your important files -- just in case -- before converting the drive!

How can I change my HD Format from standard to extended by saving all my data, or is this impossible. I have a Power Book 1400/133 with a 1 GIG HD and OS 8.1 installed. Thanks!

My guess is that PlusMaker analyses the drive. then finds a free space to copy a block of data to Then rewrites that section to the new HFS + nad copies the data back onto the new formatted block.
It would proceed to write the whole drive this way.
Just a guess..
Oh, you meant how can they sell it for $ 30 bucks. I don't know. -- Adrian
