I'm just looking for a fairly light machine that I can carry to classes
without having to worry too much about it being stolen, or anything like
that. I'm also needing to do light graphics work, but nothing too hard. I
also do a few presentations, which is something my little greyscale 190 has a
problem with.

Sounds like the 1400 would be great for you. The 1400/133 or 166 would handle any of those tasks with ease, and it's not a likely candidate for theft. The 3400 is faster and more capable, but it's also a beast at 7.5 pounds, and the keyboard is a turkey compared to the 1400's.

The only reason I could see for you not to get a 1400 would be if you think you might need USB or FireWire connectivity, and it doesn't sound like that's the case.
