My 520c and iMac G4 will not interface via Appletalk anymore. I get

I was able to use Appletalk to connect the two when I was running
10.2.8, but now that I'm on 10.4.1, I can't seem to make it happen.
Right. Apple has eliminated standard AFP/AT (Apple Filing Protocol
over AppleTalk) from Tiger. Only AFP/IP (AFP over IP) and FTP and
SMB are available now. This makes OS X incompatible with all Macs
running OS 8.x and earlier.
Apple's official solution is to either install OS 9.0 or later (which
has AFP/IP), or to purchase ShareWay IP (a 3rd party extension that
adds AFP/IP to older systems).
