gift can be declared, it is not a fraud since custom duties (at least
in EU) applies also to gifts!
In Italy the only way to save custom duties and VAT is to declare
that it is **personal stuff**. In my case after my PhD at UC Davis I
shipped back to Italy some stuff and I was asked to pay custom
duties. I could demonstrate that the stuff was mine and I did not
have to pay to bring back my stuff.
2_lost items
I was sent two months ago a busted 540c along with a logic board and
a keyboard for my collection, via USPS from a colleague in Tulare, CA.
I belive it has disappeared and, given the USPS not recorded
delivery, I will never know if the box has ever reached Italy. FedEx
is more expensive compared to USPS, but if you opt for the USPS
recorded delivery, well, then FedEx is cheaper.
