Vicki,
I typically use an Apricorn PCMCIA adapter that hooks up to a standard IDE
interface to make a laptop drive function as an external drive, then drag
and drop to it. I've used it on Wintel PC's and PowerBooks. The Apricorn
kits (usually sold as 'E-Z Drive', IIRC) are often available on E-Bay for a
reasonable price, and they are very handy.
Does your 550 have a PCMCIA card cage?
Another reasonable and inexpensive alternative is to use CallunaCard PCMCIA
Type III hard drives, easily found in 520 MB and 1 GB sizes.
HTH,
Richard

Got a 550c. back
I need the control panel and extension panel for the newertech 167 cpu
also how do i install a system on the hdd when i have no external cd rom

the drive i have in it is a 30gb ide drive with an adapter partitioned in
5, 1x 7gb and 4 x 5gb,drives.
loaded on one partition is the install boot disk for the os 8 cd rom but
that is minimal and gives me no options if it put the original 810 scsi
