I am having a problem with the internal modem in my PowerBook 520. I
can't get it to connect. It just says there was an error, and it
doesn't even try to dial. Any help? I have OS 8.
Not the case - the modem will work in OS 8, I run 8.1 in my PPC 540c and
7.6.1 in my regular 520's.
You will need the appropriate software for it, since Global Village was the
manufacturer (no Apple modem was made for the 500-series). If you don't feel
like going through the labrynth of the old GV web site, I can mail you the
disk images or if I get lots of time I'll upload them to a server where you
can download them at your leisure. I think I still have the OCR disks, too,
so I can copy them if you want. IIRC, 12MB was the requirement to use that
function.
As for your other question, if you only have 12MB of RAM then System7 is a
better choice. It's still quite useable, and you can replace some of the
things like Appearance with the OS8 versions.
