Heh, I ran a PowerBook 190 until last month, so I think I'm beating
you. Personally, I think the Lombard and Pismo are much nicer than the
TiBook, but that's just my humble opinion.
As far as OS X goes, Jaguar isn't too bad, either. I've had good luck
with Jag on my Lombard 400, but that's just me.

Who here runs on the oldest 'Book (as their MAIN machine...anyone can
say they have a Mac Portable while using a 17" PBG4 as their daily
machine...that is, anyone with lots of disposable income!)
As for X, go for one that can run 10.3 or later. That's when X really
hit its stride. In addition the big cutoff for X software seems to
have stabilized around 10.3.x. That would be Lombard or Wallstreet
with XPostfacto.

I agree with Vicki on this one. If you're really serious about a good
'Book, save up a little and get a Lombard or Pismo, at least. I know
that when I finally replaced my 190 with my Lombard, I never looked
back. Get something that can run OS X, IMHO. It's worth it.

If $50 is all you have to get a book? and you are really serious
about
it i would hold off and save a-bit more because that will only really
cover the postage for most of the decent books. Even if you can get a
1400 or even a 3400 for that Then i would assume that it waas being
sold for spares and in need of a-lot of work.

I've never seen the 1400CS screen (all mine are 1400C's), but I
imagine it
would be worth whatever extra you'd have to pay to get up to the
active
matrix display.
Actually, the 1400cs is the active-matrix screen; your 1400c IS the
active-matrix LCD.
