Is the AC adapter tested? Try running your 3400c without the battery and see
what happens when it is running on AC only.

When I try to run on A/C power alone, the computer makes very loud clicks* from the speakers (I can tell they're from the speakers because the subwoofer in the screen vibrates to the touch), and then after about 5 or 10 seconds of clicking, the LED in the top right of the display housing is solid green.

*Clicks sound like the beginning of the chime, but like 1 millisecond of the chime only repeated every .5 second...
