32s behaving like 16s
--------------------------
I had almost exactly the same problem (with 64s) with OWC-branded ram
that said "2k" on the order form and "4k, 2 bank" on the ram. They
claimed this was their special way of labeling 2k; I don't know
whether that's accurate in general, but only half the ram was
recognized on my PowerBase (or my c500, another Alchemy machine),
which is exactly what's supposed to happen with 4k.

FPM isn't supposed to work, but I don't know whether it would cause
this problem. Refresh rate definitely can.

Send it back and be sure to specify both EDO and 2k. You might want
to specify single-sided if you don't trust your source to send you
real 2k. Brand probably doesn't matter. If you can, get them to
verify it in an Alchemy machine (OWC did for me, or at least said
they did...one of the dimms they sent me on try #2 was defective.
They did get everything right on try #3, but I think I'll avoid their
ram in the future... To be fair, they seem like a decent source for
other stuff.)

16s behaving like 8s
-----------------------
First, the PowerBase has 8MB on the motherboard, so be sure to
include that in your calculations. If you started with 32 total from
three dimms, then they're three 8s (or a 16 and two 4s). Your last
two tests are still showing you a 16 and an 8.

What you really want to test is the 16Cubig by itself. (If the
machine will start up, but the OS says "sorry, not enough ram", you
can try tricking it with virtual memory.) Then, if you get 16 total,
it was either an 8 to begin with, or it's half-dead. If you get 24,
then...I don't know why it doesn't work in combination, but Michael's
suggestion about using all the same speed and refresh sounds like a
good idea.

If you still have all your old 8s, what size/refresh/speed do System
Profiler and Chipmunk say they are?
