err...what's wrong with this picture?...hmmm...I think it's the part about
the local
Mac guy buying a bunch for resale....Velocity has sold out on their $29.99
'special offer' and
is now up to $39.99 for the same components.
You'ld think by now that local dealers would be keeping a hawk eye out for
ram prices...they seem to go up and down faster than the stock market in an
election year..
so they could offer their customer base reasonably competitive prices.
I had an email exchange this week with someone in Toronto whose local Mac
dealer was selling 64 mb 168pin dimms for the 7500's etc. for just over
(US)$200 each!
I'd be pretty pissed if I'd just paid over US$400 for 128mb ram and found
out that it's
readily available elsewhere for US$40
I don't expect local dealers to compete equally with online suppliers, they
do have
different overhead to deal with, but if they charge 10 times the going
amounts, the online
dealers will be the only source in short order....
