Right on Mr. Macdonald.
As to the online dealers ... When I can get anything 20% cheaper and pay
$7.50 shipping rather than drive 15 miles round trip through traffic ...
Guess what I'll choose? ... I paid 10.00US for a Mac battery at Radio
Shack. Then learned a source from this list & bought 10 at $1.50US @.
Another Example: I just bought some Van Hausen shirts (6) for $12.99@.
After looking at the very same identical items at a local Upscale Dept.
store priced at $27.95 each.
As to the local dealers and prices. People buy on price, Period. That is
one of the problems of being in business. In the retail M/C business, we
were the source of information & product knowledge for many folks that
had bought from a price cutter (PrCtr). But, THEY PAID DEARLY ... when
they brought it in for our trained, experienced, adult Mechanics to sort
out & repair the mess said PrCtr's 17 yr. old shade tree, "Hammer and
Pliers", 8th grade dropout had caused.
One solution was to create doubt. "You can buy a new CB77 for how much?
I don't understand that. He pays the same thing for them I do. Is it a
demo? Has it been in a wreck? Oh, I know. I'll bet it's one of those
bikes that were underwater in that flooded warehouse in Canada. I had a
chance to buy some of them; but we passed on it. Just not fair to the
customer." Create doubt. It works most of the time.
That's what they're trying to do about the $29/39.00 Dimms. Create
doubt. I've two PowrCntrPros with 8 of the 29.95 128mb Dimms installed.
They've been running perfectly for over a month now with absolutely no
problems what-so-ever from installation to operation. I couldn't say
that about the $350. plus, Drum copier or the first Omega Zip Drive;
both of which were pure landfill.
