How do you test the ram to see if it is bad?

I had some problems with my PowerCenter at one point: random crashes,
problems that couldn't be remedied by low-level formats and clean system
installs.

After a long period of investigation (every night for a week), I found
the culprit: bad RAM. Some RAM is just bad. This RAM worked well for
the first 14 months I'd used it, then started going south. Once I
replaced the errant chips (with RAM from Crucial.com - the only vendor
from which I'll purchase RAM, BTW), the machine worked great!

It still works great....
