The offer is current. I received the drive today, May 2nd. Model ST218418. It even came with extra jumpers and the best directions, I've ever received with a Hard Disk Drive. THOUGH THAT DOESN'T SAY VERY MUCH!. Most come with notes on six or eight different models or a page the size of a gum wrapper. Little fine print ... about the size of a Master Card "Change in Terms" Insert. The worst of all directions, cover seven different models in seven different languages all on the same pages, such as English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Sanskrit and Australian Slang, i.e., "Take it on the toe, Mate!
These have Pictures of Jumper Configurations, from ID 0 to ID 15. Nice! ... But, the internal termination talk is a little fuzzy. ... I have written some "Installation and Trouble Shooting Directions in my past. Most times, it's not a simple task. After studying several different directions from different fields, I came to the conclusion "Most Directions SUCK!" Companies spend all their time money and effort developing a product ... then call their nephew in from the receiving dock and have him write the directions! ... OR a Japanese person writes the directions and a Mexican National translates it ... Every thing is either conflicting or backwards, "Raise the Window Down", gobbly de gook. Hark, the directions speak of Single Ended (SE) or Low Voltage Differential (LVD) mode. ... "Say, whut?" ... It says here, "Note: DO NOT mix LVD drives on the same bus (Cable) with High Voltage Differential devices - drive damage may occur." ... SE ? LVD ? HVD ? I thought knowing, "SCSI, 50 Pin, 7200 RPM, +5V +12V and the formatted capacity" made me a better informed consumer than anyone that ever came to my Triumph-Honda M/C parts counter. Like in, "What Model? - Er, uh, (scratches upper side of chest, causing two bananas to fall from shirt pocket) it's red." Oh whew, I found it ... This model is a ST218418N. "N model drives are not multimode devices. They are single-ended (SE) devices and cannot be configured to operate in LVD mode." Now, I can put all the Mac Bibles back into the book case.
