I have a Power Tower Pro with a 350 mHz G3 upgrade. Compared to Firewire a USB hard
drive is slow. I added a Granite Digital (http://www.granitedigital.com No
financial interest, just a satisfied customer) firewire card and use one of their
HD cases. More than adequately fast for everything I have done with it. Very
pleased with the Granite Digital products, however, the one caveat is their
firewire cards only run on OS 9.1 and up.

You'll notice a significant speed improvement with a firewire HD vs a USB.
