I have Seagate 80 GB Barracuda HD in a Granite Digital 3630 Case kit, I use one of Gramite Digital's # 4546 PCI host cards in my Power Tower Pro with G3 400 upgrade card. Once I had 9.1 running I downloaded Apples 2.3.3. driver and everything operates great.
In the case of the Granite drive kit the ATA driver must beset to the "master" configuration, however, other than that, there were no mysterious glitches. When I upgraded to OS X 10.1.5 the firewire all came along fine.
