I posted recently re: my PB 180 and what I should do to hedge against a
possible inconveniently timed failure.

I got great advice from R. Baucom, Chas, Macdonald and Stinnet (thanks guys)!

As a follow up, I'd like to change the battery and maybe the fans but:

A. The manual doesn't even mention the battery in the index and I
couldn't see it inside the machine.

B. The fan for the power supply looks like an integral part of the PS
and the PS is covered with warnings not to go in there. :(

Robert Baucom mentioned a site that had pictures or drawings of the
inside of my box. I rummaged around in the NG archive but didn't see
anything. Can someone cite me a site?

Also, I looked around Low-End and MacResQ, looking for fans and
batteries. I didn't see anything that said, like: "For New Old Stock of
PowerComputing parts, go here." Without getting numbers off the fans or
battery, how would I know what to search for otherwise? How does one
search those sites? (BTW, I just spotted in my manual a reference to the
battery being a: 3.6 volt lithium 1/2 AA cell. Is that all I need?)

And, because I fretted about losing data, Robert suggested I get a
Sonnets Firewire PCI card and a firewire external drive to back up to.

Now, this is a "next-big-paycheck" idea that really intrigues me! I've
had some experience modifying my box--namely, adding a TV capture card,
some memory and swapping out the original CD drive for an Apple one. So
I think I'm up to this.

Can anyone advise as to rough costs, sources and whether my still
running 8.5.1 on a 180mHz machine would be an impediment to this move?

Thanks, guys! Wotta group!

Will
