On the PowerBase that you should find the battery on the motherboard in a
clip holder near front of the machine, not far from where the power switch,
on the same side of the motherboard as the monitor ports.

The battery is a 3.6-volt lithium battery (1/2 AA cell -- maybe an inch,
inch-and-a-half long), which I'm told can be found at Radio Shack (remove
yours and take it with you to be sure). There are also online sources for
it. Only costs a few dollars.

I believe the battery's primary (sole?) function is to maintain time and
calendar info.
