I also reached the same conclusion, and recommended the EZ135 and
subsequently the EZFlyer 230 for use in our entire school district by
those people that needed a cheap backup solution (mainly our libraries).
That decision came back to haunt me because:

1. SyQuest went out of business, leaving us in a position of hunting
around for cartridges.
2. The Iomega Zip drive became the standard, meaning that people
couldn't readily bring their data back and forth from home
3. Numerous driver and media failures with the SyQuests.
4. Many, many broken latches and doors on the units - mostly due to
users trying to 'force' it
5. Several bad power supplies
6. Many print houses will accept work on Zip, but don't have SyQuest

Bottom line is that we've now got quite a few 'spare' SyQuest drives and
cartridges.

We ultimately switched to using Fujitsu 640mb Dynamo Magneto Optical
(floptical) drives. A bit on the pricey side, but I've only run into one
case where there was a media problem in the 3+ years we've been using
them. They are a bit slow, but data reliability was a must for us.

We've also got a couple folks using CD-R/CD-RW. And of course, the
people that need them (including myself) have Zip drives.
