I had a similar problem. Booted up with extensions off, Opened Extensions folder and made sure the proper CD extensions were installed. Since I'm using another CD utility, I disabled CDToolKit and the Apple CD Drivers.
After reboot it should recognized the CD on the desktop with extensions on. Opened the Start up Drive control panel and selected the CD as Start Up disk.. Shut Down - Not Restart. Booted up with Norton Utilities and ran Disk doctor & Speed disk. I would sugest you get Confict Catcher (My fav O Rite) ... or extensions Manager and make you some sets. Keep disabling extensions until you have a clean, crash free, stable set. Label it your "Clean Set". Then Lock it, so any new extensions installed don't get enabled on your clean set and corrupt it.
