First thing I would do, is put the computer back into the last configuration
that worked. In you case, take out the new memory modules and put the
original ones back. If  the computer works ok then, you may have some
inappropriate memory modules. Or, as James suggested, you may have zapped
them by not handling them properly. Pray that you did not zap anything on
the motherboard.

I would not recommend going past the amount stated in the original
documentation as "Maximum Memory" regardless what OtherWorldComputing says.
If you don't have that information go to
http://www.everymac.com/systems/powercc/index.html and find your particular
model. Make sure that you do not mix module types (mixing speeds is usually
OK - from my experience.)
