Well, I'm a newbie as well. I just reclaimed my Power120 from my mother-in-law, who preferred a new Windows machine that crashes constantly. So we got her a Dell, a service contract, and told her we know NOTHING about the darn thing, so just burn the help line momma...in the meantime, I happily took my old pal home. Other than needing ANOTHER new PRAM battery (it's so freaky how they go out with no warning and so disturbing how DEAD the computer is w/o it...but also so rewarding to be able to pop in a new battery and feel like you've got the power of resurrection) it runs like a top.
I'm getting an AAUI/10baseT adapter so I can hook the thing up to my multi-generational network. Power120 is now the old guy, running OS 8 and joining my 1400cs running OS9 and my iMac and G3 iBook running OSX on a hybrid ethernet/Airport network. How COOL is it that I can have four totally different computers running three different OS's on a two-part network and have it work nearly seamlessly? If only I knew more about network protocols - it was easy to do once I figured it out, but sheesh is it hard to figure out your first network! I do have ONE question for the group: What's the easiest way to auto-mount different computers on login? I made aliases of them and put those aliases in the startup folders (OSX I'm talking), but every time the power goes out or I have to reboot the Airport for some reason the aliases have to be reassigned. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!
