I received a CD from a person that I have corresponded with via
e-mail and one of the sites on MyFamily.com. My computer will not
recognize the CD that he sent. He says he has included a file in
Family Tree Maker version 7.0 for Windows, a gedcom file of the same
information, several coats of arms pictures in pcx format, and bmp
format, and some tree drawings in bmp format.

He has a CompaqPC model 6024US, running Windows XP Home Edition,
with a DVD/CD burner. His tree has 4,000 individuals.
After I couldn't get anything but "This disk is unreadable by this
computer", I took the disk to a neighbor with a PC & he said he
thought that the disk had been compressed with Winrar, and that there
wasn't any way my computer would read it.

I have an old PowerComputing PowerBase 200 (PowerPC 603ev) with 96 MB
and 1.2 GB hard drive. The CD-Rom drive was advertised at 8 X. I am
using FWB CD Rom toolkit version number:4.0.1. The drive is PHILIPS
PCA80SC V4-9. I am running OS 8.6.

I thought I would return the disk to my friend and ask him to burn
one in another format. What should he use for me to be able to read
it? Really all that I am interested in is the gedcom. I have
MacLinkPlus Deluxe and Stuffit programs.
