I'm not expert at all.  Installing OS 9.1 (from an iMac disc) I used 
disk setup to initialize the hd in my PTP 180.  That made my drive an 
Apple drive.  A message appeared when I started the initializing, saying 
the drive was not Apple, but that I could proceed with the initializing, 
which I did by checking the box that appeared.
