Hi folks! With my school sadly trying to get rid of its' old Mac equipment, the science department has (to my delight) decided to toss out of most of its' old Mac stuff, including 4 PowerCenters (two 150's and two 132's). I have both 150's and a 132.
I've decided that I'm going to build a 'frankenstein' computer out of the 150 Tower - and I've managed to fix every problem that I've encountered (even changing the id number on one of the seagate drives I yanked from one to put in the other) except getting this thing to recognize any CD-ROM drive I put in! I've tried my hand with 3 drives so far: NEC Drive:462 Toshiba TXM5701BO (which I think is a 12x) and a Phillips PCA80SC It will recognize a Start-up CD - (i.e. - Performa system disk, Mac OS 8 disk) if I put it in the tray and restart the computer with it in there. After this, I can put in other disks and it will recognize them - SLOWLY. I can't play any audio CDs. Apple Audio CD player gives me an error message. If I just put in a data or audio CD randomly, it won't recognize it. The scsi ID on all 3 drives is 3. Internal primary is on 0 and internal secondary is on 2. Nothing else hooked up but the cable modem. I REALLY REALLY want to use this tower (as opposed to the desktop 150 lying on the floor in peices in front of me). Running OS 9.1, 128MB RAM. HELP?!?!!!
