Hey Kerry: This is a common problem with non-Apple drives. The stock Apple CD/DVD driver does not support most non-apple CD-Roms. You have a couple of inexpensive options other than buying a commercial CD-Rom driver. One is to get hold of the FWB CD-ROM toolkit Extension which was on the original Powercomputing system install disk - it works with most drives. Another is to use a hack of the Apple CD/DVD Driver which allows it to work with non-apple drives, although it is not always successful in my experience. If you use one of these, make sure you disable the Apple driver extension.
