Also, just so you know...I have had problems with many PowerBase machines and the Apple Photo Access extension. In all cases, when I have seen symptoms of desktop flashing, etc., it was resolved by removing that extension and doing a restart. This problem also prevents PC formatted disks from showing up on the desktop.

I think it stems from an incompatibility with the Apple extension or 3rd party CD-ROM drivers.

In addition to removing that extension, I would also trash any 3rd party CD-ROM drivers (i.e. CD-ROM ToolKit, etc.) and install Apple's 7.6 driver which works with a large number of drives.
