I had the same problem with my PTP 225; I eventually just kept switching
USB/FireWire cards until one worked smoothly. (Loove those easy return
policies, I do...) I'm currently running a Belkin 2/2 port card under OS 9.1
with a Sonnet Crescendo G3 upgrade card, and all is well.

I'd like to upgrade the video card, as it's the main bottleneck at the
moment, but that's a future purchase.
