They're one of the "usual suspects" in silicone (sic) valley.
I've had no problems with them, but I've been a walk-in customer, not a mail order customer.
Anyone trying to deal with them on the phone is probably a little testy? Their phone service is tad less than sterling. Having said that, I have dealt with them mail order and walk in, for years, as recently as last week, and have never had a problem with them at all. One WD digital drive I bought a couple of years ago was bad, and they promptly replaced it, as soon as I notified them.
Now your stuff may show up in weird packaging. They take recycling to an extreme. My last shipment was in a Campbell's Soup carton one before that in a Yuban carton. Despite the creative packages, everything was adequately packed an arrived fine. I've dealt with these guys for over a decade now without any hassles.
Just my experience, your mileage may vary.
