I jsut picked up a PowerCenter 150 for dirt cheap and it appears to have a 150 mhz G3 processor. This has been verified by "System Profiler" under OS 7.6 and 9.0, as well as by Sonnet's Metronome software.
What gives? I never heard of a G3 running at only 150 mhz. Also it appears to be the stock processor -- no Sonnet, nor NewerTech logos. Does anybody know anything about this thing?!
Yes, it works!
Thanks,
Richard
Do you have a digital camera (take a photo of the processor and post it somewhere to view or email it to me)? Did you remove the processor card and check everywhere for numbers? Does it have DIP switches or jumpers on it? It is entirely possible to be an UNDERCLOCKED G3 upgrade that could more than likely run at a higher speed. The slowest G3 speed I have seen in production terms was 233Mhz. There could have been stability issued at higher speeds caused commonly by poor DIMM ram, poor Cache speed. Or the original owner had no idea how to set the speed correctly. As far as overclocking, generally you can go 10% above safely. I have plenty of Beige G3 in both 233 and 266 that I overclocked to 300. I just eBayed a 450Mhz G3 for my B&W that I will set to 500Mhz. Powerlogix was good at making 604e accelerators that overclocked easily by adjusting both the bus speed and the processor multiplier. Of course some processors (sonnet - no switches) are controlled only by software and there are plenty of tools by Newer, Sonnet, Daystar and 3rd party hacks to set the processor and cache speeds with software.
