My printer, an HP LaserJet 2200, has unexpectedly disappeared from my computer. Its hooked up to my PowerWave 604/130 running OS 8.6 via a UBS card I added four years ago and has worked seamlessly during the ensuing years. But yesterday when I turned the computer and printer on and went to print, the printer at one point couldnt be found (error message =-8878) and at another point "didnt respond" (error message 8993). When I checked the Chooser, the printer had disappeared. Ive reinstalled the driver, created a new Desktop Printer, unplugged and replugged the UBS cable (and even changed from port 1 to port 2 and back) but with no success. Ive also turned the printer off and on a few times.
Then to see if the fault was computer specific, I installed the HP software on my G3 PowerBook running system 9.0.4, cabled printer and PowerBook together and got the same results, which leads me to suspect the cable or the printer. Yet neither have been subjected to anything abnormal in the last two weeks to which I might attribute the failure. And the printer appears to be fine in isolation in that I can print a test sheet without a hitch. Ive searched both the Apple and HP websites for suggestions or leads but can find nothing that will help. Any suggestions for what path I might pursue next?
