Thanks for the welcome, and thanks for the advice, I shall keep my eyes open for g3
cards on ebay uk. Any real difference between the various makes?

Although they all provide the same advantage, dependent upon speed, the 'Sonnet' cards don't require extensions to be installed. This can sometimes be a wee bit problematic if the seller doesn't include the necessary software. Eg. My XLR8 card requires extensions to activate the cache, and IIRC A Newertech card I had a while back was the same.

Oh, and one more thing :-)
I want to get another SCSI hard drive for the Powerwave, so I can boot Fedora of
one and OS9 of the other. Are macs picky about drives?
I know what I'm doing with SCSI - the controller is a 50-pin Fast SCSI as far as I am aware....also is the mac choosy about CD-ROMs? I heard something about an Apple
ROM, but I am really green when it comes to Macs....

Try and ensure that and HD or CDRom you get comes out of an Apple box. Although almost any SCSI unit will do, those that don't have Apple ROM build in will require a 3rd party driver such as the 'FWB toolkits' that were included with the original PowerComputing computers.

You can also use later model IDE devices in the PowerWave by installing an IDE card (Sonnet 'tempo' eg) in to one of your PCI slots. Again, drivers may be necessary if the IDE devices aren't Apple ROM'd.

The PowerWave is equivalent to an Apple 8500 (it's actually identified as an 8500 in the Apple System Profiler), and any bits and pieces or 3rd party accessories (ram etc) from the 7300, 7500, 7600, 8500, 8600, 9500, 9600 series should be a straight plug in to the PowerWave.

Cheers...Michael
