Au contraire, the Sonnet Crescendo G3 cards do come with an enabler
extension, Labeled "Sonnet Processor Upgrade". I started out with ver.
1.3.7 went to 1.4.4 and I'm now using the 1.4.5 version. These can be
downloaded from Sonnet Free of Charge and I would suggest this be
installed in your extensions folder first. I've had them boot up
without this, but like to play it safe.
Sonnet's installation manuals are far superior to any other's I've
encountered. Their Tech help line has been excellent the only two
times I needed it. (their first instructions back in '98 omitted a
crucial element, i.e., removing the cashe card.)

Thanks for the welcome, and thanks for the advice, I shall keep my
eyes open for g3
cards on ebay uk. Any real difference between the various makes?
Although they all provide the same advantage, dependent upon speed,
the 'Sonnet' cards don't require extensions to be installed. This can
sometimes be a wee bit problematic if the seller doesn't include the
necessary software.
Eg. My XLR8 card requires extensions to activate the cache, and IIRC
A Newertech card I had a while back was the same.
True.......
Those G3's cards that require software can be a real pain in the butt,
especially when they are made by companies who are out-of-business .
The drivers can be found but are tough sometimes. That's when the LEM
lists really prove to be an invaluable asset to the Mac community.
