PM not finding SpamSieve

After upgrading to SpamSieve 2.4.4 PM and SS aren't communicating.  This
has never happened on any previous upgrades, and I'm pretty sure the same
procedures were followed every time.

The SpamSieve manual also had gone missing from my system, so I
downloaded another copy from the web.  Unfortunately, the answer to this
problem wasn't in the manual.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.
