I had the exact same situation when running PM from version 4.x through 5.2.3, lastly while using Mac OS X 10.2.8. The problem was intermittent, unpredictable, and unavoidable. It didn't happen often, but often enough to be an annoyance, especially since I always had to test the sound in another application before going back to PM and restarting it. Another sound problem I had with PM was its failure to consistently play my custom sound for new mail notification. The sound runs for three seconds but, around 90% of the time, PM cut the sound off after less than two seconds. ---Jay
