I agree. I have suggested in the past that connection logs could be kept
at the OS X standard places and viewed with the Console app. Pehaps with
a nice menu item inside PowerMail taking you to there. This way nothing
fancy have to be constructed within PowerMail, except the logging
function. I'm sure there is something logged already. It's just not kept.
