First, download the final 5.2.1 version instead of the beta.

Do you mean that it works when accessing the same database files from
another Mac OS X user account? If so, make sure you have read/write
access to all the files in the PowerMail database folder.
You can try the first aid options by launching PM with the command and
options keys pressed. If the problem persists, can you take a sample of
the PowerMail process with Activity Monitor (select the PowerMail
application in the list, then choose Sample from the Process menu), save
the result in a file and send it to me?
