Bear in mind that Activity Monitor isn't really *that* smart - it just
knows if it's heard from the app in a while or not. If an app is very,
very busy and doesn't have time to respond to Activity Monitor, it'll
list as "Hung." But given some time it will come back.

If you're doing a low-level rebuild (Command-Option on startup), how long
have you given that? It could take some time, depending on the size of
your database.
