If you copy the complete PM folder as I've described and the relative position of files does not get changed (i.e. the folder attachment stays in the folder PM in which is the message database), then I do not see any reason why messages should loose the attachment. I know my upgrades went fine. I won't promise though. But follow my instructions and you SHOULD be safe.
